Invitation for HPYF 2012SAILING AEOLIAN ISLANS IN SICILY, 22nd September – 29th September 2012
Magnificent Sicily is our next HPYF destination! For most it will be the first time visit and everyone is very excited. We will start and finish in Portorosa and sail to Lipari, Panarea, Stromboli, Salina and Vulcano. We will see an active volcano, visit some charming Italian towns and anchor in beautiful bays. The closest airport is in Catania (approximately an hour and a half drive away from Portorosa). It is also possible to fly to Palermo too (land transfer from Palermo takes approximately two hours).
We capped the number of boats to 12 for the next event. Booking is on a first-come-first-served basis so please let me know your preferences as soon as you can. As the fleet is fairly small, we have decided not to book any meals ahead (apart from Welcome and Prize giving evenings) but will have a list of suggestions ready in advance with the itinerary. The Welcome party will be organized by the 2011 winners, the Dutch team (YES AGAIN!) led by our Comodoress, Carolyn. If the party is organized in the marina, independently, we may require some funds per person in advance. The Prize giving will be booked in one of the restaurant nearby.
For those of you that are skippers without crews or crews without skippers please contact us and we will do our best to help with forming a crew for you. I look forward to hearing from you soon and to sailing Sicily together next September!
'The usual format of mixing the sailing races with swimming, socialising, cooking and partying will be retained' .... said John Hall Hall.

FORMAT FOR THE WEEK
All crews will be expected to arrive in time for the welcome party at 7:30 pm on Saturday 22nd September 2012. Ideally, all check-ins will be completed on Saturday to allow a prompt getaway on Sunday morning after a general briefing and feedback discussion. A typical day will entail breakfast ashore or on board followed by a general discussion to share the plan for the day with all crews. When the conditions are suitable we will hold a race, normally 1-4 hours long. A stop for lunch and swimming will normally be possible. We will berth together where possible each evening, either in an anchorage or marina. The choice to eat on board or ashore will be at each crew’s discretion, and hopefully afterwards there will be one or more gatherings on the boats until late (or very late!!).
The week is suitable for crew members of all abilities and if you join as an individual we will find a boat suitable for your abilities.
