Commodore's letter

Hello sailors!

I’m the new Commodore for 2011 and I am the first lady Commodore!
Thanks to my crew who did a wonderful job together to let our Sun Odyssee 45 sail as fast as possible.

Unfortunately we started this 3rd High Point Yachtfest with a gale! A force 9 whole day long let us decide with all the skippers not to sail out. So we started the 1st day with walking around Portisco Marina and enjoy these lovely huge boats, going to the beach and enjoying the sun.
The next few days were the opposite of wind: almost no wind. We started with a force 3 and ended with ‘flat’ sails. The commodore, John Hall Hall, shortened the race, which was a good decision. As we finished first, we took over Commodores job and finished the others. It is still fun sailing!
The next day we still had no wind. The first part of the route we motored, than some wind came and we did a short race. After all, we all came for sailing…..
After racing we stayed for lunch in a beautifull bay! Then racing again, with a ‘rocky’ finish (all rocks above and underneath the water!!!). From here we motored up to Bonifacio, Corsica. Well, this was one of the most spectacular coastlines I have ever seen!! Beautiful high coast with this little gorgeous town on top of it and hanging over the sea. Stunning!!
We did also stay overnight ones in a beautiful bay, Levezzi. That night we did a walking dinner on board. Everybody made tapas-own-style for everybody! This was one of the best nights we had! We had a lot of laughs, too much food 9of course) and ‘some’ drinks….
Final day we had good winds! And all of a sudden everybody sailed faster than before! We had to work very hard to try to win the race, but no luck! Colin won. Well done, guys!

After the check out back in Portisco we were preparing for the price giving party. We had dinner and live music at a local food restaurant up the hill. The food was delicious, the wine tasted better and better and the ‘grappa’ made it all. The music changed into a Karaoke party and made everything loose in everybody. Great final!

We can look back to a fantastic week with fantastic people! Very well organized by Sasha and John. Thanks!! And John, we almost know how this rabbit-start works…..
And thanks to all the crew, see you hopefully next year!!!
